Principal | Façade Engineering Leader, Arup
Michael Chin is a Principal with Arup Singapore Pte Ltd, he is also the Façade Leader. In this role, he is responsible for the leadership and direction of Arup Façade activities in Singapore and the wider region. Professionally, as a chartered engineer, he has played lead roles for a range of different types of major buildings in Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
He started his career with a façade specialist contractor specialising in the project management of a wide range of façade projects. Michael is experienced in the coordination and motivation of multi-disciplinary teams involving owners, architects, main contractors and specialist contractors to complete projects in a cost – efficient and timely manner.
At Arup, he was involved in conceptual and design aspects of façade engineering though a series of high profile and complex projects. He has been working closely with renowned international and local architects like Moshe Sadfie, Fosters & Partners, Aedas, Wilkinson Eyre, Broadway Malyan and WoHa dealing with increasing complex and complicated façade systems to meet the ever demanding architecture.
Michael has since developed a keen interest in sustainable building design, setting design targets and working with the design team to form a whole building solution which efficiently uses passive and active systems. He has since been involved in many high profile, iconic Green rated buildings in and around the region, contributing mainly on advice on the passive design aspects of the façade and how they would contribute to the overall efficiently of the development.
