Papiya Sarkar

Chief Architect, DMRC

Ar. Papiya Sarkar is a graduate from Jadavpur University, West Bengal, with a Masters in Urban Design from the same university. She specializes in creation of Barrier Free Environment for disabled and elderly persons, urban design, interior design and design of green buildings. She has worked as Sr. Architect, Min. of External Affairs, Government of India 1999 to 2006. She has also worked as Senior Architect in New Delhi Region, CPWD and handling projects in New Delhi Zone and is presently working in CPWD, Jaipur, Rajasthan. She has published a number of papers like CPWD ‘Guidelines on Creation of barrier Free Environment for Disabled and Elderly Persons’. She worked in UN, ESCAP sponsored pilot project in New Delhi ‘Creation of Barrier Free Environment’ and presented Country Papers at Bangkok, Japan, Beijing in various workshops from 1995-1999. She is the recipient of NCPEDP Helen Keller Award, 2003. She has worked with Council of Architecture as a resource person to promote Barrier Free Environment in India. She was also a nominated member from DMRC for ‘Accessible India Campaign’ initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment, Govt. of India.
