Julie Nelson has over 30 years of experience in designing projects that uncover the potential in existing conditions, that are inspired by program and place, and in making places where the natural and built environment can co-exist. A partner at BKSK Architects, her work includes the LEED platinum certified Queens Botanical Garden Visitor and Administration Building, the Center for Fiction as well as adaptive re-use and renovation projects including the Fischer Mills Building, 11 Beach Street, and the Bellevue Mens Shelter. She is also currently working with her husband to convert a 19th Century Scottish church into an energy efficient residence.
In addition to practice, Julie teaches at the Spitzer School of Architecture at City College, where her courses integrate BKSK projects as teaching tools. Julie holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Architecture from the University of Virginia.
