Jonathan D. Taylor, an associate at Higgins, Quasebarth & Partners, is a graduate of Harvard College and the Historic Preservation program of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. His prize-winning thesis, Tapestry Brick Dwellings: The Emergence of a Residential Type in Brooklyn, was an investigation of overlooked vernacular architecture of New York’s 1920s outer-borough building boom and immigrant community migration. In addition to the Waldorf-Astoria, his notable HQ projects include the redevelopment of Terminal Warehouse in West Chelsea; the residential conversion of former St. Luke’s Hospital pavilions in Morningside Heights; the relocation and restoration of the Palace Theatre interior; new buildings in Greenwich Village, NoHo and other historic districts; and the listing of National Register historic districts recognizing the significance of Donald Judd’s career and architectural interventions in Marfa, Texas. He is also co-author of the 2020 revised edition of the late Charles Lockwood’s Bricks & Brownstone (Rizzoli).
