Principal Architect, Barchan Architecture
Few Filipino architects have dedicated their practice to reimagining how Philippine culture can be expressed through contemporary architecture. John Patrick Anthony “Jason” Buensalido stands at the forefront of this movement.
Jason is the Principal Architect and Chief Design Ambassador of Barchan Architecture (formerly Buensalido Architects), a firm committed to contextual, culture-centric, and community-oriented design. His work seeks to contemporize Filipino architecture making it globally relevant while deeply rooted in national identity.
Beyond his practice, Jason co-founded B+Abble, a contemporary design festival now in its 10th year, and Foundree, a built environment review center. A topnotcher in the 2005 Board Exams, he holds degrees from UST and the Architectural Association Global School Singapore, and is an ASEAN Architect.
His firm has received numerous national and international honors—from the Haliging Dangal Awards, World Architecture Festival, and WAFx Awards, to the UAP Design Awards in Dubai and Architecture Asia Design Awards, where Barchan was named Architectural Firm of the Year (2025).
Jason has also published two books—Random Responses (2014) and Shifting Sands (2024)—articulating his ongoing crusade to contemporize Philippine architecture and express Filipino identity in the modern world.
