Abdulla moved to Hong Kong in 1991 immediately after his graduation in Architectural Engineering from Regional Engineering College, University of Calicut, India (now National Institute of Technology). He started his career in the Engineering division of an Architectural consultancy firm in Hong Kong, where he gained valuable practical training and experience in structural engineering for more than 5 years. He then gained design and quality control experience with curtain wall contractor and precast concrete facade factory respectively for one year each.
In the year 2000, Abdulla started work in the design department of a steel building and cladding specialist sub-contractor in Hong Kong. He gained hands-on experience in design management for 10 years before starting in late 2010 with Hyder Consulting (later acquired by Arcadis with a complete change of name in late 2016). Abdulla’s work experience includes practicing with consultants and specialist contractors at design offices and at construction sites in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and the Middle East.
