Computational Design Leader, KPF
Alan Cation is a computational designer, artist, and educator based in New York City. His work focuses on parametric architecture, complex geometry, sustainability, and simulating how natural behavioral systems interact with each other and their environments. Alan utilizes his expertise in generative and computational design to take both an experimental approach to the design process and a practical approach to managing and rationalizing complex formal systems from design to production.
As the Computational Design Leader in KPF’s Digital Practice Department, Alan sets the computational strategies for designing and delivering a variety of complex projects throughout KPF. He specializes in computational façade design where he develops project-specific design solutions as well as bespoke software that scales KPF’s design capabilities across multiple projects. Alan’s work provides further layers of customization for façade design beyond industry standard toolsets and facilitates project teams to seamlessly transition between design and documentation platforms.
