Alan Lau

Associate, Foster and Partner

Alan’s design approach sees architecture as a form of thinking rather than the thinking of form. Extending beyond just buildings and its environmental impacts, engaging external fields such as arts, politics, and business to develop new intelligent outcomes.

While working across Asia, the need to address tropical design appropriately arose and motivated him to move back to Singapore in 2018 to join Foster+Partners, adopting an iterative design approach through research and innovation (past and present) to help develop tropical strategies and designs beyond “green washing”.

Alan studied at RMIT, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, gaining his Master of Architecture in 2013. Previously he gained a Diploma in Interior Design at Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore in 2007.  Prior to joining Foster + Partners, he worked at OMA, Office for Metropolitan Architecture.
