Principal - Sustainable Buildings, Beca
Ben is a Building Scientist with 20 years of New Zealand and UK experience. Specialising in Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) he leads Beca’s green building projects across Australasia with a focus on achieving positive sustainability outcomes. He champions an integrated design approach to target value outcomes for clients. This has included the development of many ESD strategies ranging from small Net Zero buildings to large and complex projects.
Ben has driven the façade environmental performance outcomes on many leading NZ sustainable buildings – This has included the World Green Building Council award winning Aorangi House refurbishment. In conjunction with a whole of life systems approach, Ben promotes and engineers passive design, embedding performance within the architecture to use the building itself as the primary means of environmental control. He is currently leading several projects targeting Zero Carbon certification where the façade performance is integral to achieve target carbon, energy and indoor environmental quality outcomes.
Ben is an experienced Green Star professional, NABERS assessor and NZGBC accredited energy modeller. He is also on the NZGBC expert reference panel for energy and carbon in operations.
In his current role, he is privileged to lead New Zealand’s leading team of sustainable building specialists.
