Associate Principal, Diller Scofidio + Renfro
Charles Berman is an Associate Principal who joined the studio in 2013. He received a Bachelor of Science in Design from Arizona State University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. With over 30 years of experience, Charles has lent his technical expertise on multiple cultural, performing arts, and civic projects and has acquired a unique specialization in facade design, development and construction detailing.
Berman is a senior member of the design team of The Shed, a new center for artistic invention in New York. As the project’s Senior Technical Director, he led The Shed development including the façade and the resolution of many of The Shed’s complex technical systems.
Specializing in façade design, he has worked as a façade consultant at Front, Inc. and R.A. Heintges. Prior to that, he spent 9 years at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, where he led the design for the new headquarters for China Central Television (CCTV) in Beijing, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Beijing, the new headquarters for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Berman is currently an Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, offering a seminar in facade design.
