Charu Kokate

Guided by purpose, Charu Kokate envisions architecture as a catalyst for positive change, creating ripples that extend across communities, neighborhoods, and cities. As Senior Partner and Director of Safdie Architects’ Singapore office, she plays a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s work throughout Asia. A self-proclaimed ‘Design Guardian,’ Charu ensures that complex projects are executed with precision and integrity, guiding interdisciplinary teams through the intricate transition from conceptual vision to built reality.

Charu’s portfolio features some of Singapore’s most celebrated architectural achievements, including Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort and Jewel Changi Airport—both recipients of Singapore’s prestigious President’s Design Award. Her extensive work also includes Altair Towers, a 69-story residential tower in Colombo, Sri Lanka; Boulevard 88 | EDITION Singapore, two luxurious residential towers set above the acclaimed boutique hotel on Singapore’s famed Orchard Road; and the flagship headquarters campus of Surbana Jurong, the first headquarters to be sited within a rainforest. Currently, Kokate is part of the leadership team overseeing the Marina Bay Sands expansion, poised to once again redefine Singapore’s skyline.

Charu serves as a distinguished ambassador for Safdie Architects’ humanist design philosophy, representing the firm at influential global forums such as TEDx, the World Architecture Festival, and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA). Celebrated as a thought leader, keynote speaker, and jury member, she actively contributes to advancing architectural discourse within the industry. As a dedicated mentor, Charu is passionate about empowering women in design, fostering leadership and resilience to inspire the next generation of architects.
