Darren Anderson is a founding director of FMDC with over 20 years of industry experience working as a stone consultant in the construction industry. He started his career in Hong Kong where he worked as an engineering geologist on tunneling and residential projects, before returning to the UK to join the façade team at Arup in London. In 2013 he left Arup to and joined FMDC, a leading design and engineering consultancy for facades and building materials.

Darren has traveled widely in the course of delivering his projects, which has seen many visits to quarries and manufacturing facilities in Europe and Asia. He is client focussed and balances technical knowledge with commercial acumen to deliver sound advice and direction, in stone selection, procurement, and installation for both new build and restoration projects requiring stone externally and internally. He has been involved in a number of challenging projects where identifying and assessing appropriate stones for structural and cladding applications has been critical. Darren is passionate about teaching people how to select the correct stone, one that meets both the technical, visual, and cost requirements of a project, and help designers to embrace and work with the variable properties of this natural material.
