
Deputy Manager, Timber Building Construction and Research Center
Demet Sürücü received her Bachelor’s (2001) and Master’s (2005) degrees in Forest Industrial Engineering from Istanbul University. Her work focuses on timber construction, traditional wooden architecture, structural restoration, and craftsmanship-based education.
In 2008, she was invited by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to establish a workshop dedicated to traditional timber construction techniques. As Coordinator of the IMM KUDEB Timber Training Workshop (2008–2020), she led conservation and restoration projects on historic timber buildings, particularly in Istanbul’s Historic Peninsula, while providing hands-on training to thousands of trainees.
She joined Bahçeşehir University in 2021 as a Senior Specialist. In 2024, she conceived and led the establishment of the BAU Timber Construction Application and Research Center, where she serves as Founding Director. Her work bridges traditional knowledge and contemporary sustainable design, contributing to the advancement of timber architecture in Türkiye.
