Innovations Manager, Schueco India
Dr.Omkar Powar is a senior innovations manager at Schueco Innovaton Hub for Asia, Oceania & the Americas which is located in India. He has received his Master of Engineering (Structures) from Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) Pilani and then obtained his Ph.D. from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in year 2021. He is the first ever Wind-Façade Structural Engineer in India with a doctoral research work focusing on the wind tunnel evaluation of the surface pressure distributions on Tall Building Façades. He has authored research articles and presented at various international conferences, prominent publications being; “Learning from Façade Failures over Urban Landscape: Aftermath of Cyclone Vardah” ASCE (Nat. Hazards Rev. Journal), and “Localized Effects due to Aerodynamic Modifications in Buildings: A State-of-Art Review” in a book series by Springer.
He started his industry endeavor by joining the Innovation Hub of Schüco in year 2021. Currently he is responsible to tap the technological advancements in various interdisciplinary areas and harness their potential to apply in the domain of facades & building envelopes. He is involved in designing of user-centric and futuristic products. He also act as a point of contact for the collaboration activities with academia and allied industries. Before joining Schueco he has also shouldered the responsibilities (for 5+ years) of performing the structural proof-checks for various façade design projects. He has also been a resource person for numerous ‘Skill-Development Workshops’, ‘AICTE Quality Improvement Program’, and ‘Train the Trainers Program’ on Use of Glass and Glazing System in Buildings as per national and international design standards. Omkar is also a recipient of “AWSAR Award -2018” from Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India for the article “Glass: Superhero in the World of Construction Materials.
