Esteban de Backer is an architect and educator. He has taught at GSAPP, Columbia University, and served on juries for leading institutions. His work spans Europe and the United States, including projects in Barcelona, Lausanne, Vienna, Oslo, and New York. Notable projects include Catalunya Media City in Barcelona, the New Generalitat Headquarters in Lleida, a mixed-use tower in Queens, the Bronx Animal Care Facility or the Bronx Museum renovation. Esteban’s design approach bridges professional practice and academia, exploring architecture as both a pragmatic and conceptual discipline. Currently, he leads Marvel’s new Barcelona office, where he develops projects that combine technical precision with innovative, contextually responsive design.
