Henry Musangi

Director of Design, Planning Systems

Henry is a registered architect and Director of Design at Planning Systems Services Ltd. A Kenyan company of architects and land use planners that has been in business since 1978. Planning has designed and completed projects throughout the Eastern, Central and Southern African region, the Indian Ocean Islands and the Middle East. As Director of Design, Henry’s role entails the setup and execution of a strong firm-wide design culture that is rooted in local pragmatics. This is being undertaken via a combination of explorations and real projects that examine the interface between culturally relevant human experiences of spaces and landscape, with particular emphasis on revamping urban possibilities. Henry’s project experience includes small-and large-scale master planning, commercial, residential and Industrial projects. His project diversity has included serving as the lead architect for an award winning Pharmaceutical Regional Distribution Centre at Kitengela Kenya as well as overseeing the master planning, design and construction of the Waterfront shopping mall at Karen. Prior to joining planning, Henry worked as a licensed architect for two leading United States firms specializing in education facilities and the senior living/retirement community markets respectively. He was also the Chair of American Institute of Architects Baltimore Associates Committee, a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). He is a corporate member of the Architectural Association of Kenya. He holds a Master of Architecture from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville USA and Bachelor of Science, Architectural Studies from Southern Illinois University at Carbondal.
