Principal, KPF
With over 35 years of experience, KPF Principal Hugh Trumbull, AIA, is distinguished by his dedication to architectural craft and the nuanced relationship between built form and urban space. Hugh’s approach is rooted in a rigorous investigation of materiality and detail, leveraging the tectonic qualities of materials to realize imaginative and refined design concepts.
His expertise spans a broad spectrum—from intimate interior renovations to signature urban monuments, such as the elegantly curved limestone lobby at 712 Fifth Avenue and the dynamic stone-and-glass façade of HONY Center. As a practice leader in repositioning, Hugh creatively reimagines existing buildings, balancing functional requirements with aspirational design to enhance user experience. His projects, including lobby transformations at 280 Park Avenue and 60 Wall Street and building-scale renovations at Centra Metropark, demonstrate his sensitivity to context and craftsmanship.
Hugh also shares his knowledge as a design educator and guest critic at leading universities nationwide.
