Board Director, ChapmanBDSP
Ian Duncombe is a Board Director at the London based engineering practice, chapmanbdsp. He leads a multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering major masterplans and building projects across the EMEA. He studied Building Engineering at the University of Bath’s School of Architecture and Building Engineering where being taught by Ted Happold sparked a passion for innovative environmental engineering and a holistic design approach. He believes that consideration of architecture, structure and building services together, with a focus on passive design, is the most effective way to deliver comfortable, energy efficient buildings with minimal emissions. For more than 30 years a sustainability theme supported by this integrated design approach has run through his projects in the UK and internationally, including two winners of the RIBA’s Stirling Prize and the winner of the CTBUH’s Overall MEP Award Winner in 2019. He is currently working on signature projects such as Battersea Power Station in London and Manoel Island in Malta. Ian has lectured widely on the subject of environmental engineering and for the past 16 years has run Technical Studies courses at the Architectural Association in London.
