Founding Partner, SimpsonHaugh Architects
United by the shared belief that high quality design has the power to transform cities, Ian Simpson co-founded SimpsonHaugh with Rachel Haugh in 1987. Ian has played an integral role in building the practice’s reputation as leading urban and civic architects, initiating and overseeing all design.
Ian is a passionate advocate of revitalising cities using a contemporary architectural language and high quality design. He champions tall, mixed use, high density, sustainable and viable propositions which engender a sense of community through identity, and act as symbols of civic pride, confidence and ambition. As a tall building resident himself, Ian understands first-hand the benefits of urban, high density living.
Ian has lectured extensively, nationally and internationally, about architecture and SimpsonHaugh’s work. Recently, he spoke at the 2013 Council For Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) conference in London, he was keynote speaker at the 2017 Manchester Evening News Property Lunch, and in 2018 was a representative for New London Architecture (NLA)’s Tall Buildings programme.
