Principal, Severud Associates
Benjamin Alper joined Severud Associates in 2005 as an engineer. He steadily progressed upward through the ranks and, in 2020, was promoted to associate principal. Throughout his career, Ben has taken on increasingly challenging projects such as the TSX Broadway redevelopment in Manhattan, the Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn, and the LA Forum renovation in Inglewood, California. Outside of the office, Ben serves the structural engineering community as a member of the ASCE 7-22 Minimum Design Loads committee as well as its Seismic Loads subcommittee. He is also active with NCSEA, NYC Buildings, and SEAoNY, where he is a past director.
Ben is co-author of several magazine articles, including “Cold and Hot Weather Concrete,” and “Power of the Ring” (LA Forum).
Ben is licensed as a structural engineer in California and Nevada and as a professional engineer in six states. He earned a Bachelor and a Master of Engineering in civil engineering, both from the Cooper Union.
