John Czechowski

Senior Associate, Gray Puksand

Born in Canada, John Czechowski obtained his Architecture degree from the University of Toronto in 1991. A four-month study abroad term in Florence in 1988 and a four-month sojourn to Paris in 1991 were pivotal experiences shaping an understanding of urbanism, placemaking and Architecture as craft.

Upon his arrival in Australia in 1996 and with over 30 years’ professional experience, John has demonstrated expertise across typologies including industrial design, bridge infrastructure, commercial, retail, education, master planning, mixed-use, public, high rise residential, hotel, rail and stadia.

John is passionate about projects involving a high degree of technical and functional complexity and his strength in design and management are evident from concept design to delivery. His detailed design skill, technical expertise and flexible thinking contribute to exemplary urban realm and built form.

Intensely curious, his focus on the craft of building, material and structural expression, spatial experience and the play of light and shadow seeks to contribute positively to human experience. With his humanist focus, John’s primary motivation is to create beauty in the world. His belief that refined qualities of space, place and setting are intrinsic to optimising human perception, behaviour and community. That beauty is an enduring quality that resonates with the best aspects of us.
