Design Principal, Cannon Design
John Reed has wide and varied experience in both the practice and teaching of architecture. He has been the Design Principal in the New York City office of CannonDesign since 2011. In his tenure at CannonDesign, John has continued his focused design passion in the areas of Higher Education and Science/Technology. His work on a variety of American campuses is noted for its contextual sensitivity and strong sense of place making. Each building is a unique solution to the requirements of the students, faculty and the administration. Before establishing his own firm in 2004, he served in an associate position at Thomas Phifer and Partners, and with Koetter Kim and Associates in both Boston and London, and practiced with numerous architectural firms including Richard Meier and Partners, Gwathmey Siegel and Kohn Pederson and Fox. Academic experience includes appointments at Harvard University, Syracuse University, New York Institute of Technology and with Columbia University’s MSRED Program. He has received many awards with each professional association. John received a Master of Architecture from Harvard University, a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and is a registered Architect in the State of New York and with NCARB. A member of the American Institute of Architects, he lives in Katonah with his wife, Alicia K. Sandberg Esq., and their two sons, Mills and Sawyer.
