Nicholas is a Partner at Konzepte and also the founder of Lateral, a research-in-practice design studio based between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur. He leads a geographically diverse team of experts with an extensive body of technical knowledge and intrinsic inter-cultural intelligence. He is interested in outcomes which respond to the specific needs of the communities he works with – culturally, environmentally and socio-economically.
Nicholas has extensive experience in designing and delivering large public & private sector projects in Australia and South East Asia. His experience covers a wide gamut of building types – educational, healthcare / aged care, office / workplace, hotel / hospitality, retail, residential projects and large mixed-used masterplans.
His critical design approach and lateral problem-solving expertise alongside his acute awareness of the business / numbers aspect of projects, bring multi-dimensional, holistic design leadership to complex projects. He has demonstrated the ability to lead large multidisciplinary project teams and to manage complex stakeholder groups.
Nicholas sits on the board of DOMA Initiatives Berhad, a not-for-profit foundation promoting local design discourse & supporting young designers.
Prior to his return to Malaysia in 2016, Nicholas sat on the board of the Lyon Foundation and taught in the Undergraduate and Masters program at RMIT University in Melbourne.
Nicholas is a registered Architect in Australia.
