Senior Partner & Head of Technical Design, Foster + Partners
Paul Kalkhoven is Foster + Partners’ head of Technical Design, he leads the Construction Review Group, which reviews projects in the pre-construction stages to maintain and improve technical design standards. He joined Foster + Partners in 1986, was promoted to director in 1995 and a senior partner in 2004.
Paul studied architecture and town planning at the University of Technology in Delft in the Netherlands and went on to join MacCormac, Jamieson and Prichard in London, to work on university projects in Oxford and Bristol.
Since joining Foster + Partners in 1986 he has been involved in a wide range of projects in the UK and abroad, including Stansted airport, Commerzbank in Frankfurt, Circle Hospital in Bath, Gerling Ring in Cologne, the Drentestaete office tower in Amsterdam and Swiss Re in London. He now focusses on construction design and technology, an essential part of the practice’s work and key to innovation.
