Phillip Davies has been involved with the laminated glass industry since 1978 and has extensive experience in all facets of architectural laminated glass from manufacturing through to installation. He holds an honours degree (1965) in Chemical Engineering from the University of New South Wales and during his career acquired Professional Engineer status in both Australia and Canada. He retired from the DuPont Company in 2009 after 42 years of service and is currently a consultant trading under the name Davies Laminated Glass Consulting (DLGC). He was a long standing member of several glass industry bodies including the Executive of the Australian Glass & Glazing Association and the Standards Australian glass BD/7 committees. He has represented Australia on the ISO TC 160 ‘Glass in Buildings’ committees and served as an industry expert on the ISO TC 160 Working Groups on Laminated Glass and Safety Glazing Tests. From 1999 until 2009 he was a member of the Architectural Glass Programme Committee for the ‘Glass Performance Days’ Conference. In 2006 he was appointed a Guest Professor of the China Building Materials Academy in Beijing for his extensive work at the Academy on testing of safety glass products. He has been a frequent speaker in international glass forums and has published a number of papers on architectural laminated glass. In February 2015 he entered a consulting agreement with Kuraray Glass Laminating Solutions on the marketing of SentryGlas® Ionoplast Interlayers in Australia. Concurrently DLGC in partnership with Kuraray joined the Australian Institute of Architects Refuel CPD Provider Network as a registered training provider of the presentation “Designing with Structural Laminated Glass Interlayers”.
