Head of Innovation Laboratory, Hella
Robert Weitlaner is Head of the Innovation Laboratory at HELLA, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of solar shading and daylight management systems. With a background in daylighting, façade technologies, building physics, and simulation-driven design, he has been actively involved in research, development, and planning for innovative building envelope solutions (incl. controls) for many years.
At HELLA, he leads interdisciplinary teams working on the development of next-generation façade and solar shading systems, with a strong focus on sustainability, occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and digitalization. His work bridges the gap between academic research and practical implementation, translating emerging technologies into market-ready solutions for the built environment.
Robert is engaged in numerous national and international research initiatives and collaborates closely with universities, research institutions, architects, façade consultants, and industry partners. His expertise spans daylight and glare control, thermal performance, façade integration, building simulation, and innovation management. Through his work, he contributes to advancing high-performance building envelopes that support the transition toward more sustainable and resilient architecture.
