Associate Principal, Dattner Architects
Ruth Ro’s interest in the political environment of urban development and her background as both an economic development analyst and painter have shaped her understanding of consensus-building and its importance within urban architecture. Whether through her art exhibit, “Icons of the Meatpacking District,” a collection of portraits that presented key players in the neighborhood’s transformation, or through managing large-scale mixed-use projects, Ruth is passionate about the importance of bringing people together and facilitating dialogue. Her approach to working with the client and the project team is characterized by a commitment to problem solving through design and the belief in successful collaboration—integrating multiple aspirations. She applies this similar methodology to leading the firm’s “Thought Leadership” initiatives focused on design’s and the built environment’s role in developing an equitable economy in cities. Through engaging in a design process that is creative and cooperative, she aims to achieve longevity of use within each project’s intended purpose.
