Spencer Lapp

Associate, COOKFOX Architects

Spencer Lapp, AIA is an Architect at COOKFOX Architects, a studio dedicated to integrated, environmentally responsive design. The studio was built on the principle that good design is sustainable and engages innovative responses to social, cultural, and ecological issues. Among many projects, he has worked on 512 West 22nd Street, a black terra cotta clad commercial tower along the High Line in New York City that prioritizes a connection to nature in the modern workplace. Currently he is working on St. John’s Terminal, a 1.3 million SF adaptive re-use ground scraper that highlights the historical rail terminus to the High Line. The design of St. John’s aims to reimagine the workplace of the future with electro-chromic double wall facade, and incorporates high performance building systems such as bio-dynamic daylighting, rainwater catchment and filtration, and thermal energy storage. In addition to his design work, Spencer is the resident beekeeper of COOKFOX, managing the 100,000+ honeybees and other native pollinators that inhabit the studio’s verdant terraces.
