R. Vijayan is a distinguished architect and design leader with over 27 years of professional experience in the planning, design, and execution of large-scale residential, healthcare, aviation, transportation, hospitality, commercial, and institutional projects across India and the Middle East. Currently serving as Chief Architect at L&T Construction, he heads the architectural function for the Residential Business of the Buildings & Factories division, in delivering complex EPC projects from concept to completion.
Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a Master’s degree in Planning (Housing), Vijayan has been instrumental in the successful delivery of landmark developments, including residential townships, hospitals, airport projects, Metro stations, and international assignments in Kuwait, Qatar and Oman.
Over the last several years, he has led the design and development of projects accounting for more than 90,000 residential units. He has overseen projects spanning over 4,200 acres of development and nearly 5 million sq. ft. of built-up area, covering project value of Rupees 15,500 Crores , while contributing significantly to major design-led business growth.
A strong advocate of high-performance façades, sustainability, and constructability-driven design, Vijayan specializes in integrating architectural vision with engineering excellence. His expertise in façade development, modern construction technologies, multidisciplinary coordination, and execution planning enables the delivery of building envelopes that are aesthetically refined, energy efficient, and practical to build. He is passionate about mentoring design professionals and advancing innovation in the built environment.
