Director, PLP Architecture
Wayne McKiernan is a Director at PLP Architecture, where he has worked since its inception in 2009, and for 10 years prior to that at KPF in London. His experience encompasses schemes as diverse as office buildings for end user occupiers and speculative clients, to Europe’s largest biomedical research laboratory, super prime residential schemes to transport infrastructure projects.
Presently he is leading the construction of a residential scheme in the heart of London’s Mayfair, delivering a range of apartments, across 14 storeys of development with a finely composed handset Portland stone façade and market leading internal acoustic standards.
In the recent past he led the team and oversaw the delivery to completion of Sky Central, a new headquarters for leading European Broadcaster Sky. The challenging build programme drove many offsite and prefabricated approaches to the envelope design including a high degree of timber elements. He also led the design, and oversaw the delivery to completion of the entire building envelope on The Francis Crick Institute, a unique project that deployed multiple façade approaches to meet the demanding performance criteria of one of the UK’s most complex buildings.
Wayne places an emphasis on a building’s external fabric, being well versed in the design and execution of a wide range of building envelope solutions. He enjoys pushing the boundaries of building materials old and new, exploring their limitations and driving advances in the industry to support novel design solutions.
