Having studied at University of Kentucky and Columbia University, Doyong Um practiced for fourteen years in the US before relocating to Seoul and joining Siaplan Architects and Planners in 2014. At his overseas practice at respectful firms including Rafael Viñoly Architects and FXFOWLE, he specialized in large scale civic, office, hospitality and mixed-use projects.
At Siaplan, he is the leader of design studio focused on large scale projects and has led notable projects including Parc 1, mixed use project with 630,000m2 and Jeju Dream Tower, integrated resort with 300,000m2. Based on the experience from overseas projects, he is expanding global competitiveness and displaying expertise particularly in hotel, office, and large-scale mixed-use projects.
He is the winner of AIA Colorado Young Architect Award and holds professional registration in New York and Florida State of the US. He has been a member of American Institute of America since 2007 and a LEED accredited professional in sustainable design. Currently, he teaches at Konkuk University College of Architecture program.
He believes architecture connects human beings to society and furthermore to the city. And good architecture make the world a better place for everyone in daily life experience.
