Mary MacDonald leads a multifunctional heritage planning unit for Canada’s largest urban municipality. As part of the City Planning Division, Heritage Planning undertakes policies and studies, reviews planning and permit applications as required by provincial and municipal legislation and develops and implements financial incentives to support strategic conservation goals. As a member of the senior management team, Mary provides strategic direction and expert knowledge cross-divisionally and to City Council on a wide range of conservation related issues, she interfaces with citizen and public interest group and represents the City’s interests to all levels of government. She has participated in Parks Canada advisory committees and is a professional member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals, the Association of Preservation Technologists and the International Council on Monuments and Sites.
